**** SIDS and Kids WA are looking for new Peer Supporters ****
Bereaved parents provide an invaluable measure of support to other bereaved members of our community and this manner of support is a fundamental part of the SIDS and Kids WA service. Please contact one of our counsellors if you feel you can contribute to this service by becoming a volunteer phone or regional supporter.
There is an application process and professional training is provided by the SIDS and Kids WA. Please note, applicants are requested to wait at least 12 months after the death of their child before applying for this volunteer program.
For more information, please call our office on (08) 9747 3544 or email: perth@sidsandkids.org.
Peer Support
Our trained parent volunteers assist us with the delivery of support services. Parents who have experienced the sudden and unexpected loss of a baby or child from conception to twelve years of age are actively involved in providing emotional support to newly bereaved families. This state-wide service provides valuable empathy and understanding to newly bereaved parents and family members. The parent volunteers maintain the 24 hour 1800 686 780 phone support line.
Grief Support Publications
We have a variety of books, articles and videos relating to different aspects of grief, including information on coping with grief available in the SIDS and Kids WA library located at 33, Sixth Avenue, Kensington. All may be borrowed by bereaved parents, familes and friends.
We also have a number of booklets available free to download on our Grief Support Publications page.
Parent's Stories
Our Parent's Stories page is dedicated to stories and poems written by bereaved parents to celebrate the lives of the babies or children they have lost, and to help them work through their grief. Take a look at these special poems and stories.
